Analysts: Trump's "napkin-style" trade protocol will pose challenges to the Supply Chain in Southeast Asia.
On July 30, Jin10 reported that an important policy observer stated that countries and businesses need to prepare for the challenging impacts of U.S. tariffs following the August 1 trade agreement deadline, as the agreements reached so far lack precise details or commitments. Deborah Elms, trade policy director at the Hanley Center for Global Trade, said at a business summit: "I have always referred to them as napkin agreements, because I think their durability is about the same as that of a napkin, and their details are as thorough as what you would write on a napkin. A 15% tariff will still be significantly higher than the levels in March, which will pose difficulties for many companies. Specifically in the Southeast Asia region, uneven tariff rates may pose challenges to the Supply Chain."
