In June, Paradigm published an article titled "Intent-Based Architectures and Their Risks," which introduced the concept of Intent) to the public for the first time. Related protocols and infrastructure developed rapidly, and it became a hot topic in the crypto community at the ETHCC conference in July.

Intent is not a new concept. As Mindao, the founder of DForce, said: the crypto space has always been about extreme abstraction and automated operations, from aggregators, CEX, contract wallets, to cross-chain DeFi, and there are also Chainlink, automated middleware, and the recent Telegram bot.

The intention is to bring new changes. In the past, the focus was on product interaction, while in the AGI era, the focus is on human-computer interaction. AI/LLM contains great potential to enhance encrypted interactions.

01, Top-down Anoma and Bottom-up Unibot

In the past six months, agreements, projects, and infrastructures related to intentions have successively gained popularity. Here, we take a glimpse of the overall picture through two typical examples.

The most notable project related to intent is the Anoma Foundation. Against the backdrop of severe homogenization in Layer 1, the Anoma Foundation, with its intent-centric( architecture centered around intent), has raised a total of $57.8 million in three rounds of financing for the Anoma( Dapp full-stack architecture) and the Namada( privacy Layer1), ranking 7th in financing amount for unissued Layer 1/Layer 2.

Recalling Anoma's speech at EthCC, founder Adrian Brink stated that the core of Anoma is: all interactions begin with intention, where users express their intentions which are processed by Anoma's black box architecture, implementing the core transaction process based on intention interaction:

  • User Interaction: Users send transparent, private, or protected intents to the Anoma black box architecture.
  • Intent Collection and Matching: The parser collects intents, performs balanced state transitions, and matches counterparties.
  • Transaction Processing: After matching, the transaction is submitted to the crypto mempool, and the validator sends the block packaged by the proposer to the execution layer, completing execution and verifying validity, and finally updating the state root.

The Anoma team has identified the underlying pain points of blockchain protocols and believes that the intent-centric Anoma architecture represents the third generation of Dapp architecture in the evolution of blockchain protocols. It allows users to define the desired outcome state and achieve efficient and customizable privacy transactions at the intent level.

Anoma is currently being built by a cross-disciplinary team of 37 members from the Heliax development team. Although progress has been slow over the past two years, a complete innovative ecosystem has been formed.

  • Anoma: Intent-Centric Universal Dapp Architecture
  • Namada: The privacy settlement Layer 1 of the Anoma ecosystem
  • AnomaVM: Simplified DApp development on Anoma
  • Typhon: Improved consensus based on Tendermint in Cosmos
  • Taiga: Provides a composable privacy unified execution environment

Although many institutions are optimistic about the potential of Anoma, this top-down approach has only laid the technical foundation so far, and there are no exciting practical applications yet. On the other hand, TG Bot has opened up the imagination for practical applications in the Intent segmentation scenario with on-chain automated trading tools.

Unibot is a trading bot based on Telegram that allows users to perform automated DEX trading through Telegram, offering features such as sniper buying, copy trading, DEX limit orders, privacy, and anti-MEV. Unibot replaces the cumbersome interactions of Uniswap based on Intent, providing a convenient DeFi interaction experience. Unibot has also spawned a number of TG Bot clones, and the total market capitalization of the current TG Bot sector is approaching 200 million USD.

Top-down Anoma is innovation, while bottom-up TG Bot is transformation. Anoma starts from an intent-based underlying architecture, but the team's progress is slow; TG Bot, while providing users with a new on-chain interaction interface, is not intelligent enough and has many security risks.

Both paths lead to the same goal, which is to simplify the user interaction experience and introduce a new programmable and customizable user interaction interface - User Intent Layer ( 用户意图层 ), allowing users to bypass complex on-chain interactions and define transaction status based on intent.

02, AI is the New UI: Command Interaction VS Intent Interaction

Exploring the intent behind it, AI is bringing fundamental changes to the crypto world - the transformation of user interfaces.

The AI paradigm is introducing a third type of user interface paradigm in the history of computing, shifting towards a new interaction mechanism where users tell the computer what they want rather than how to do it.

  • Paradigm One: Batch Processing
  • Paradigm Two: Command-based Interaction Design
  • Paradigm Three: Intent-Based Outcome Specification

Every revolution in interaction modes throughout history has led to entirely new business models. Generative AI based on LLM brings disruptive changes to human-computer interaction, directly transforming the interaction with various software UIs into interaction through the Chatgpt chat window, which is an unprecedented experience. LLM+crypto introduces a new proposition based on intent interaction to the crypto world; LLM has the potential to make blockchain interactions smarter by discovering and describing user intent.

03. The Evolution of the Concept of Intent, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status and Trends

Intent is not a new concept; it has existed since the Web 2.0 era. With the rise of search engines like Google, users can input their intent, and the search engine provides relevant results to satisfy that intent.

With the rise of e-commerce platforms like Amazon and eBay, there has been a significant shift in intent-based architecture, allowing users to express their intent to purchase products while the platform handles logistics. In 2017, Gartner formally introduced the concept of Intent-based Networking(, presenting users with an interface where they simply need to express what they want, and the platform takes care of the business details.

Intent-based networking is the trend of automation and intelligence in the Web2 era. Gartner's Vice President of Research Andrew Lerner pointed out in 2017 that this will be the next milestone in the field of networking.

In the evolution from Web2 to Web3, the concept of intent in Web3 is not clear, but there are some common understandings:

  • Paradigm Definition: Intent is a set of declarative constraints that allow users to delegate the creation of transactions to a specialized network of third-party participants while retaining full control over the process.
  • Anoma Definition: Intent is a message sent by the user that expresses custom preferences and defines the constraints of what the system can do, rather than a specific execution path.
  • Propellerheads Definition: Parts of a transaction that require assistance from others, simplifying complex transactions by outsourcing the difficult parts to third parties.

In real use cases of Web3 intent-based transactions, users create intents off-chain, outsource to resolvers off-chain, encapsulating the complexity of blockchain interactions while retaining full control over the process on-chain, thus lowering the threshold for on-chain interactions.

The intention is to bring the concept of LLM architecture - intent centric), an architecture centered around user intent(. Currently, cryptographic protocols and infrastructure related to intent centric are embedded in the interaction layer between users and Crypto, leveraging LLM to provide a better on-chain interaction experience.

LLM+Crypto introduces a new paradigm of human-computer interaction, allowing users' intentions to be directly converted into smart contract calls. Users only need to express their intentions as they would with Siri, with robots/AI Agents/third-party parsers assisting in completing complex on-chain operations. The future of intent-based Web3 interactions is intelligent, with the potential to significantly reduce the complexity of user interactions on-chain.

AI is the New UI. More and more Web3 projects are exploring the magic of intent. Whether it's intent-based Dapps or intent-based underlying architecture, they are unlocking the potential of intent from different angles. We attempt to organize this rapidly evolving field and categorize it into four major categories from an interaction perspective, tracking the latest statuses and trends:

Infrastructure: ) intention-centric intention architecture layer (

  • DappOS
  • Flash 2.0 SUAVE
  • Anoma
  • Cow Protocol

Supporting facilities: ) related to intent and supporting infrastructure related to account abstraction wallets (

  • ERC 4337
  • Account abstraction related infrastructure
  • Related supporting facilities for intent

Enterprise Applications: ) Integrated Dapp Intent Infrastructure, API, Modular Intent Layer, Domain-Specific Parsers (

  • Trading Parser API
  • Intent API
  • Intent Trading Infrastructure
  • Composable Intent Tool

Consumer applications: ) intelligent interfaces for user interaction such as wallets, Dex, Web3 AI Agents, smart search engines (

  • Wallet
  • Dex
  • Intelligent Frontend

The intent-based architecture, supporting facilities, and enterprise applications attempt to address the underlying challenges of intent realization, but infrastructure does not come together overnight. The trend of intent consumer application layers is what is truly exciting, as the evolution of interactive entry points such as wallets and DEX shows the potential for intelligent interaction.

Wallet Intelligence: ERC-4337 introduces a new user intent layer )UserOps(, where users express their intentions, and then the bundler )Bundler( converts these intentions into executable signed transactions. In recent months, the number of ERC4337 users has significantly increased, with ZeroDev, Biconomy, and Safe modular smart accounts being the most motivated to promote AA+intent, which has the potential to usher in the era of wallet intelligence )SCW(.

DEX Architecture Transformation: Intent Based Trading ) Intent Based Trading ( aims to improve capital efficiency and user interaction experience. CoW Hooks connects complex actions such as trading, bridging, staking, and depositing, while UniswapX allows users to sign intent off-chain for matching and on-chain settlement. Similar to BananaHq, Brink, and basedmarkets, the number of Intent-based DEXs is gradually increasing, and a new Intent-based RFQ narrative ) SYMMIO ( is unfolding. As more DEXs and aggregators transition to intent-based architecture, the DEX landscape is undergoing significant changes.

Intelligent Interaction Entry: Similar to the transformation of Web3 frontend interaction interfaces by TG Bots, the interaction entry focuses on understanding user intentions and systematically converting them into automated, actionable tasks. It is not only about TG Bot-type trading robots; Web3 AI Agents and Web3 intelligent search engines are also making Web3 interactions smarter.

04, Challenges and Prospects of Intelligent Interaction in Web3

The past interaction experience of Web3 products hindered widespread adoption, and the wealth effect on-chain has masked many product issues. Now, liquidity is scarce, user attention is dispersed, and on-chain liquidity is also lacking.

At the ETHCC conference in July, developers extensively discussed the future of intent-centric applications and how to help users interact with DApps more intelligently in Web3. However, the implementation of intent-centric applications still faces numerous challenges:

  • Lack of intention-related programming languages
  • Lack of appropriate intent architecture
  • Lack of specific domain parsers
  • Intends to achieve centralization and closure
  • Lack of front-end intent recognition parser
  • Lack of composable intent implementation
  • Intent Security Risk

There are challenges but also hope. With the emergence of intent-centric related protocols, the future Web3 has the potential to evolve into a more user-friendly intelligent interaction interface. Users can have a one-stop interaction with
