The British Museum has transformed Dürer's masterpiece "Rhinoceros" into a silver sculpture and embedded it in the Bitcoin blockchain.

Recently, the British Museum collaborated with Asprey Studio to recreate the classic 1515 masterpiece "Rhinoceros" by the German Renaissance pioneer Albrecht Dürer into 11 pure silver sculptures. Each newly created sculpture is engraved with a unique digital inscription and embedded in the Bitcoin blockchain network to ensure its authenticity and traceability.

Dürer had never seen a real rhinoceros when he created this engraving of the "Rhinoceros". He completed it solely based on written descriptions, showcasing his imagination and creativity regarding the unknown. The original sketch is still held in the British Museum.
The production process of these silver sculptures is very complex, including first digitally segmenting the sculpture model and then welding it into shape. Each sculpture carries a "father-son inscription," where "father" represents the British Museum and Asprey Studio, while "son" represents the specific sculpture work. Buyers will first receive a digital inscription certificate upon purchase, while the sculpture itself takes several months to customize.
Ali Walker, Chief Creative Officer of Asprey Studio, stated that this move is to ensure the authenticity of the works and the traceability of their origins, rather than simply converting the original works into NFTs. In addition, it is believed that Dürer would certainly adapt well to the digital rights management methods of the modern art world if he were alive today.
This is not the British Museum's first foray into the digital realm; the museum previously issued NFT artworks by artists such as Japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai through the LaCollection platform and collaborated with The Sandbox to create a metaverse art experience.
This collaboration with Asprey Studio once again highlights the British Museum's innovation in the integration of traditional art and modern technology, opening new pathways for the certification and protection of artworks.
Conclusion:
The collision of traditional art and modern technology not only injects new vitality into Dürer's classic works, but also shows us the huge potential of Blockchain technology in the field of art.
Whether it is the blockchain proof of silver sculpture works or the digital innovation of the British Museum, they paint a future full of possibilities on the chain.
