Pavel Durov faces 12 charges, including providing unauthorized "cryptography" services and tools

Odaily Planet Daily According to a statement issued by the Paris Judicial Court, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov faces a total of 12 charges, including providing unauthorized "cryptography" services and tools. The statement said, "The arrest of Telegram's founder Pavel Durov was implemented against the background of a judicial investigation that began on July 8, 2024, and earlier the Paris prosecutor's office's cybercrime department had initiated a preliminary investigation." The statement continued, "Conduct judicial investigations into unnamed individuals, including... providing cryptographic services designed to ensure confidentiality without a certified statement, providing cryptographic tools that cannot independently ensure identity verification or integrity monitoring without prior declaration, and importing cryptographic tools that can ensure identity verification or integrity monitoring without prior declaration." Several other charges were also listed in the document, including conspiracy to "possess pornographic images of minors" and "Money Laundering for ill-gotten money for criminal organizations." Durov is being questioned under a cybercrime investigation and will be detained until August 28. (The Block)
