PANews, July 21 news, according to The Block, validators representing nearly half of the staked Ether support "raising the gas limit". As a result, the gas limit for each block of Ethereum has started to increase, which will improve the transaction throughput of the Layer 1 blockchain. On Sunday afternoon, multiple blocks proposed setting the gas limit to over 39 million units, an 8% increase from the previous 36 million, marking the first adjustment from 30 million in three years. Proponents of the "raising the gas limit" initiative believe that an excessive increase in the limit could make the chain too large, complicating verification and downloads for individual node operators; however, gradual increases are deemed reasonable as technology progresses. Once validators express a desire to raise the block limit, the limit will automatically rise, allowing each block to adjust the limit to about 0.1% of the total amount of the previous block. According to gaslimit.pics, currently about 48% of the clients running staked Ether set their gas limit target at 45 million units or higher. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin mentioned this initiative in a post on X, stating: "Nearly 50% of the staking share voted in favor of raising the Layer 1 gas limit to 45 million." He also praised the recent update of Geth, which reduced the storage capacity of archive nodes by about 90%, calling it the "hard work of the Geth team recently, making such scaling improvements safe and feasible."
