Solana community discusses plans to increase block computation unit capacity.
Gate.io News bot message, the Solana community is discussing a proposal to increase the capacity of Compute Units (CU). CU, as a unit measuring transaction computing resources in the Solana network, is similar to Ethereum's Gas mechanism, used to limit transaction complexity and protect network resources.
Currently, the block limit for Solana is 48M CU, with an average CU consumption close to 40M. Since transactions need to set their own CU limits, transactions that exceed the limit will fail. The block CU is calculated based on estimated limits, with actual consumption below the upper limit. 40M has reached the saturation point of actual CU consumption for the block.
The community has proposed two proposals: SIMD-0207 suggests raising the block limit to 50M CU, which has been passed and implemented on the testnet; SIMD-0256 proposes raising it to 60M CU, which is currently under review. Increasing the block CU limit will enhance the performance requirements for validating nodes.
